Padlocks, Latches Deadbolts: Decide Which Security Feature to Use on Your Doors
01/01/2014 Back To BlogThe main door of a house is what’s used to welcome the homeowners and visitors. If not properly secured, it can also serve as a gateway for intruders to violate your privacy and ruin the sanctity of your home. More than just your valuables being stolen, it is that intrusion of privacy that you need to prevent from happening because your home is supposed to be the safest place where you and your family could be in. Fortunately, you can always rely on security features like door locks to physically secure your home and keep the intruders out.
What are the Available Types of Locks for Doors?
There are many types of locks which can be used for the doors inside your home, and they can be installed by locksmith Bothell or you can perform a do-it-yourself installation. Here’s a quick look at the lock that you can choose from:
Chain Locks
Instead of serving as the main lock used for doors, chain locks serve as a suitable supplement to double up your home’s physical security. They are typically placed above the main lock. If you want to see who’s outside your door, you can peek through the partially opened gap provided by the chain lock – and only completely open it once you’re ready to welcome your visitor.
Dead Bolts
Dead bolts are used for main doors if you want to upgrade its security from intruders. Unlike latch bolts or traditional padlocks, dead bolts are heavier, more secure and more difficult to tamper with.
Latch Bolts
Latch bolts are the easiest to install but they are unfortunately easy to tamper with as well. If latch bolts are what you wish to install, you can boost its security by installing a metal plate around the door knob.
Padlocks
Finally, what’s perhaps the least expensive among the door locks that you can install is a traditional padlock. Similar to latch bolts, these can be quite easy to tamper with unless you use ones which are specifically tagged as high-security locks.
When having any of these locks for doors installed, it is best to use a combination of different locks. As such, you can ensure that your front door will be difficult to get through in case intruders do attempt to break into your home.
